I read an article about how people live their lives, horizontal or vertical.
People who live vertical are always trying to be on top. They are always concerned with other people's actions and are in a constant scramble to stay above everyone else. If someone else has something positive in their life it makes it harder for them to be happy because they are concerned with how they can be back on top.
People who live horizontally know their own path. They are not worried about what anyone else is doing because they are satisfied with their own lives. It also makes it easier to be simply happy for others success without feeling the need to make comparisons to their own lives.
